CMS M&A Outlook 2026: How will the European M&A market evolve in the coming year?
Key findings for the European market:
- 85% of respondents are planning transactions within the next 12 months – primarily on the buy-side
- Deal volume in H1 2025: 7,888 (–15% compared to H1 2024)
- Total deal value in H1 2025: EUR 474bn (+5% YoY)
- Biggest challenges: financing (34%), valuation gaps (30%), and geopolitical risks (26%)
- Regions with the highest growth expectations: Benelux, UK&I, Austria and Switzerland
Marsh - Transactional risk insurance 2024: Year in review
Key findings:
- In parallel with a challenging M&A environment, demand for transaction insurance has increased.
- Both the frequency and severity of claims are rising.
- Competition in a “soft market” environment is helping us secure even more favorable terms for our clients.
- We arranged more policies for strategic investor clients (55%) than for private equity firms (45%), reflecting a shift in market dynamics.
